GRCCAC firmly believes that the key to stopping sexual assault and child abuse is through education and primary prevention programs. We offer a variety of age-appropriate prevention and education programs, all of which are available to the community.
These programs include:
- Public School/Classroom Educational Programs: Age-specific classroom presentations in the School District of Greenville County. These presentations include the “Talk About Touching” puppet show, presentations on sexual harassment, date rape, common sense self defense, and other related topics.
- College-level Educational Programs: College presentations on sexual harassment, date rape and date rape drugs, campus safety and other related topics are available to local universities, sororities and fraternities, campus organizations, etc. free of charge.
- Community Educational Programs: GRCCAC also offers a wide range of educational opportunities to civic groups, churches, neighborhood associations and other organizations interested in educating their members on the crimes of sexual assault and child abuse. Speakers are available to discuss the agency and its programs, offer safety tips, participate in discussion panels and many other educational opportunities.
- Parenting Skills Classes*: Primary prevention of child abuse is most effective when it begins with the parents and caregivers. GRCCAC offers 12-week parenting skills classes designed to assist parents and caregivers with a variety of childrearing concerns and issues. Using the Parents Anonymous curriculum, parents are taught positive parenting skills for some of the most common concerns such as how to deal with sibling rivalry, how to discipline without using physical punishment, how to effectively communicate with a child, and more.
- Parents Anonymous Support Groups*: Upon completion of the parenting education program, parents can participate in the ongoing weekly support groups that provide peer-to-peer support. Each week, parents will have an opportunity to discuss with their peers ongoing issues, possible resolutions and glean ideas from their peers on a variety of child rearing subjects.
* Community-wide parenting skills classes and support groups are funded in part by the South Carolina Children's Trust Fund. For more information about CTF, visit their web site.
