Rape Crisis

GRCCAC provides intervention, treatment and advocacy for adult survivors of sexual assault and childhood sexual abuse. These services include the following:

  • Intervention & Advocacy at the ER: Support and advocacy for assault victims during the rape exam at the emergency room. Through a collaboration with Greenville Memorial Hospital, when an assault victim arrives at the emergency room, a GRCCAC volunteer advocate or staff member is called. During normal business hours, this support is offered by a GRCCAC staff member. However, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., GRCCAC uses a three-tiered support system in which there is a primary and secondary volunteer advocate on call to respond to the victims needs at the emergency room. The role of the Volunteer Advocate is to answer questions about the rape exam, offer non-judgemental, comprehensive information on services available to the client, including ECPs, and ensure that the client has a safe place to go and appropriate transportation following the rape exam.
  • Legal Advocacy: GRCCAC provides the services of a legal advocate who is available to clients throughout the crime investigation, prosecution and, in cases of conviction, the subsequent parole hearings for convicted rapists and pedophiles. The legal advocate offers support to the victim during the reporting process at law enforcement, accompanies them to court during the prosecution and returns to court for parole hearings. The legal advocate is also available to offer referrals for additional services the victim may require.
  • Therapy: GRCCAC employs an adult therapist who provides therapy and support to adult survivors of sexual assault and childhood abuse. Upon ensuring that the victim is safe, the therapist works with the client in helping them to begin the healing process, develop coping skills and return the client to a normal life as quickly as possible.
  • Support groups are also available for adult survivors of sexual assault and child abuse. GRCCAC offers both a female and male support groups, both of which are facilitated by a specially trained professional. The Children’s Advocacy Center also offers a Non-Offending Caregivers Support Group for the adult caregivers of children who have been abused.
